Bit 'O' History - Stussy
Stussy was started back in the 1980's by a surfer by the name of Shawn Stussy. Selling signed t shirts, Caps and shorts from the back of his car at Laguna Beach, California.
The logo it self was developed from the signature he would sign onto his hand crafted surfboards.
Shawn Stussy was joined by his friend Frank Sinatra Jr. (not related to the singer) in 1988 to help the brand reach Europe and the world, leading to the New York, Soho store opening.
The brand was sold throughout the United States at specialty boutiques and department stores alongside other high-priced "California lifestyle" clothing. Outside of the country, the brand was found in specialty shops alongside clothing from high-end international designers.
Stussy's early success gained them huge popularity within the Hip-Hop and DJ scenes and also skateboarders and punks alike. In a 1992 interview Stussy said: "Everybody calls it surf wear, or urban street wear, or surf street... I don't name it, and I don't name it on purpose'.
